Poland announces heightened air defence readiness amid Russian strikes on Ukraine
Poland’s military command announced preventive measures to protect its airspace, particularly near the border. Authorities warned residents in two voivodeships of the heightened readiness, while Lublin and Rzeszów airports were warned of possible delays.

The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces has activated forces and assets to protect Polish airspace, Polsat News reports, citing a command statement published after 02:30. The military describes the measures as preventive and links them to large-scale Russian air strikes against Ukraine. Rzeczpospolita / PAP also reports on the measures, but their shared agency source means the two reports cannot be treated as independent confirmation. At the time of publication, Flank had found no independent confirmation.
Warning of heightened readiness and possible delays
According to Polsat News, the Government Centre for Security (RCB) sent an alert to residents of the Podkarpackie and Lublin voivodeships. It states that Polish air defence readiness has been raised, the situation is being monitored and residents should await further announcements. Rzeczpospolita / PAP also reports on the alert.
Polsat News also carries a warning from the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency of possible delays to departures and arrivals at Lublin and Rzeszów airports because of military activity in south-eastern Poland. This is a warning of a possible impact on flights, not confirmation that delays are already occurring.
No specific forces or equipment identified
The command statement quoted by both outlets focuses on protecting Polish airspace, particularly in border areas. Which units are involved and what equipment they are using remain unspecified: there are no details of aircraft types, ground-based assets or the quantity of equipment activated.
There is currently no confirmation of a violation of Polish airspace, an interception or the use of weapons. Nor has it been specified how long the heightened readiness will last.
The distinction between preparing to respond and actual combat action is important. The announced measures combine military readiness, a public warning and coordination with civil aviation. In themselves, they neither prove that an aerial threat has crossed the Polish border nor allow an assessment of the effectiveness of the defences.
