The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported strikes on 4 November and overnight into 5 November against Russian drone facilities near Hvardiiske in occupied Crimea and near Melitopol. The statement was relayed by ArmyInform, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence’s news agency. For now, it is the only source of this information. Flank has found no independent confirmation of the claimed strikes or their results.

According to Kyiv, one facility is a launch site

According to Ukraine’s General Staff, the facility near Hvardiiske is used to store, prepare and launch attack drones, while the facility near Melitopol is a drone storage depot. The General Staff says Russia uses sites in Crimea to attack Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure. It says hitting such facilities reduces the intensity of attacks. This is the official Ukrainian assessment, not an established outcome of these particular strikes.

The military significance of such an operation depends on which elements are affected. Destroyed stocks, damaged preparation equipment and disruption to a launch site would have different effects on the tempo of attacks. A report of a hit alone is not sufficient to conclude that the facilities have been put out of action.

The description of the targets does not reveal what means were used in the attack either. A strike on drone infrastructure does not necessarily mean drones were used.

Damage and disruption to operations remain unconfirmed

The statement contains no quantitative assessment of the damage. The number or type of drones affected has not been established, nor has it been established whether there were personnel casualties or whether operations at the facilities were disrupted. The weapons used are not specified either.

Assessing the outcome requires imagery that can be independently verified, as well as information on the destruction and subsequent activity at both locations. Even a decline in the frequency of Russian air attacks would not, in itself, prove a causal link to these strikes. Further information may become available.

New drone shelters reportedly under construction at Gvardeyskoye airfield in Crimea

According to the Ukrainian channel, more than 20 shelters protected by earth embankments and around 40 smaller structures are being built at the airfield. There is no independent confirmation, and the number of facilities alone does not indicate an increase in attack capacity.
