Romanian Navy to send corvette and minehunter to Bulgarian-led Poseidon 26
The Romanian Navy has announced that it will take part with two ships and two staff officers in the exercise, scheduled for 6–14 November in the Black Sea. The Bulgarian Navy is organising and leading POSEIDON 26, the Romanian Navy's press office said, as cited by Maritime.bg.

Romania will take part with a corvette and a minehunter in the international naval exercise Poseidon 26, organised and led by the Bulgarian Navy. Maritime.bg cites the Romanian Navy's press office, while Romanian news agency News.ro quotes representatives of the Romanian Navy. Both reports are based on a single official source. Flank had found no independent confirmation at the time of publication.
Corvette has sailed from Constanța towards Varna
The corvette Contraamiral Eustațiu Sebastian (261) sailed from the naval base in Constanța towards Varna on 5 November, Maritime.bg reports. The other ship announced is the minehunter M 271 Căpitan Constantin Dumitrescu. It is taking part in the Black Sea Mine Countermeasures Task Group (MCM Black Sea) during its 13th activation. Romania's contribution also includes two staff officers.
According to information from the Romanian Navy published by Maritime.bg, the exercise is scheduled for 6–14 November 2026 in Bulgarian territorial waters and international waters of the Black Sea. Tasks ashore and at sea are planned using NATO procedures and standards.
Bulgarian Navy takes responsibility for organisation and leadership
According to the Romanian statement, Poseidon is an annual multinational exercise hosted alternately by Bulgaria and Romania. In 2025, the Romanian Navy organised and led it, Maritime.bg notes.
In Flank's assessment, Bulgarian leadership provides an opportunity to practise joint planning, communications and task coordination between national units. The participation of a ship from the mine countermeasures task group links its periodic activity with multinational training. However, the use of NATO procedures does not mean that the exercise is under Alliance command, nor does it confirm that interoperability has been achieved.
Full line-up and specific tasks have not been announced
The announced participation does not confirm that the two ships have arrived or that the exercise tasks have been completed. The full list of participants, the Bulgarian ships involved and the specific mine countermeasures activities have not been disclosed. The presence of a minehunter does not in itself prove that there is a specific mine threat in the exercise area.
Further information may become available as the exercise begins and participating navies issue subsequent statements.
