Estonia plans to send company to exercise in Poland for post-war support to Ukraine
According to ERR News, the Estonian Defence Forces will take part in Exercise Koalicja with a company-sized unit. The exercise will test preparations for a possible future mission, but does not represent a decision to deploy to Ukraine.

Estonia will take part in the multinational Exercise Koalicja, scheduled for 9–22 November 2026. It will be held in Poland under joint British and French leadership, the UK Ministry of Defence announced. According to ERR News, the Estonian Defence Forces will send a company-sized unit. This detail is reported by ERR News; at the time of publication, Flank has found no independent confirmation of the size of the Estonian contingent.
Moving, protecting and supplying a multinational force
According to the UK Ministry of Defence, 2,800 military personnel from 11 countries will take part in the exercise. Activities on land, in the air and at sea will rehearse command, movement, protection, supply and joint operations by forces that would support the rebuilding of Ukraine’s armed forces after hostilities end.
The figure of 11 does not mean that all the countries will send units to Poland. BTA, relaying Agence France-Presse, and Euronews name ten countries taking part in the land and air components: Germany, Belgium, Spain, Estonia, France, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, the United Kingdom and Sweden.
In Flank’s assessment, the exercise tests whether contingents from different countries can operate as a unified force and how that force can move, be protected and be supplied. Participation alone, however, does not demonstrate readiness for an actual mission.
A coalition mission with conditions for any deployment
Koalicja is an exercise of the Multinational Force–Ukraine (MNF-U), the military component of the Coalition of the Willing led by France and the United Kingdom. Peacekeeping and ceasefire monitoring are not MNF-U tasks, and the force has no connection to NATO — points the UK Ministry of Defence clarifies in a separate official document.
Deployment can take place only after hostilities have ended, at the invitation of the Ukrainian government and once the necessary political and military conditions are in place. Preparations in Poland therefore do not mean that troops are about to be sent to Ukraine, nor do they provide grounds to expect the war to end soon.
This distinction also matters for the nature of any future tasks: support for Ukraine’s armed forces is not the same as ceasefire monitoring. The specific powers and conditions for operations will depend on decisions about the mission itself.
Start of exercise and company composition not confirmed
Official announcements confirm the plan to hold Koalicja, but not that the exercise has already begun or that the Estonian unit has arrived. The company’s exact composition, specialisation and armament have not been specified.
It is also unclear whether a deployment to Ukraine will happen at all, or what its strength, duration, mandate and rules of engagement would be. Further information may be added.
